The certified nurse assistant will have to go through CNA training and pass a state issued certification exam before they can be added to the state register and go on to practice as a nurse aide. The training is provided to not only prepare the CNA for active job functions but also to prepare the CNA for the state certification exam. Because the state exam has 2 parts to it, a written and a skills test, the CNA will have to be prepared for both. Training programs prepare the CNA for the skills part of the test by having them actively participate in a number of clinical skills training hours. This not only gives the CNA the opportunity to visually see how nursing aide tasks are performed but a chance to physically perform them as well.
The skills portion of the state exam holds its own grade and must be passed with efficiency in order to pass both parts of the exam. This means that it is very important that you are prepared when you go to take your skills portion of the state test.
Required CNA skills in Providing Patient Personal Care. It is the nursing aide’s duty to aide patients with personal care| Personal care giving is the CNA’s responsibility. Personal care includes helping patients bathe, eat, dress, exercise, etc.
Though nurse aides are expected to fully help patients in these activities, they must allow patients to do as much s they can on their own. Another responsibility of the nursing assistant in terms of giving personal care is providing emotional support.
All necessary CNA skills are taught during trainings but patience and dedication is needed for one to truly obtain these skills and practice them at work with all sincerity.
